Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 15, 2026
1. Who We Are
Sayso is operated by Cambent Solutions, a Canadian corporation founded by the author of this platform. We believe in full transparency: Cambent Solutions is a small, independently owned company whose founder is passionate about helping Canadians become more informed and engaged citizens.
Our platform helps Canadians understand what their government is doing by providing plain-language summaries of parliamentary bills, balanced perspectives from multiple viewpoints, and tools to contact your Member of Parliament.
2. What Personal Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide our service. Here is exactly what we store:
- Account information: Your name (optional), email address, and password. Passwords are never stored in readable form — they are converted into an irreversible cryptographic hash before being saved.
- Google sign-in data: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google.
- Postal code and riding: If you choose to provide your postal code, we use it to identify your Member of Parliament and electoral riding.
- Correspondence details: Your full name and mailing address, if you choose to provide them, are used to pre-fill email templates when contacting your MP.
- Bill stances: When you indicate whether you support or oppose a bill, that opinion is recorded. Because political opinions are sensitive personal information, we apply special protections to this data (see Section 6).
- Bill reading history: When you view a bill, we record that you have read it so we can show you which bills are new or updated since your last visit.
- Donation information: If you choose to make a donation, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe (see Section 5). Sayso does not receive, store, or have access to your credit card number or banking details. We may receive your name and email address from Stripe for the purpose of issuing a receipt or acknowledging your contribution.
3. Why We Collect It
- Account information: To create and manage your account, authenticate your identity, and communicate with you about the service.
- Postal code and riding: To look up your Member of Parliament and show you how people in your riding feel about specific bills.
- Correspondence details: To help you draft emails to your MP by pre-filling your name and address in email templates.
- Bill stances: To remember your position on bills, show you community sentiment, and help you communicate your views to your MP.
- Bill reading history: To help you keep track of which bills you have already read and to highlight bills that have been updated since your last visit.
- Donation information: To process your voluntary donation and, where applicable, provide a receipt.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the platform
- Authenticate your identity when you sign in
- Display your stance history and community sentiment on bills
- Pre-fill email templates so you can easily contact your Member of Parliament
- Show anonymized, aggregated community sentiment (e.g., how many people in your riding support or oppose a bill)
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for advertising. We do not share your individual stance data with any third party.
5. Third-Party Services and Cross-Border Transfers
Our platform uses the following third-party services. We are transparent about what data, if any, is shared with each:
- Anthropic (Claude AI) — United States: We send the text of parliamentary bills (public government documents) to generate plain-language summaries. No personal information about you is sent.
- Google (Authentication & Text-to-Speech) — United States: If you sign in with Google, your basic profile information is shared through the standard OAuth process. We also send AI-generated bill analysis text (not personal data) to Google Cloud for audio generation.
- Open Parliament API — Canada: We query this Canadian service for bill data and parliamentary debate excerpts. No personal information is sent.
- Represent API (Open North) — Canada: We send postal codes to look up Members of Parliament. No other personal information is transmitted.
- Perigon News API — United States: We send search terms related to bill topics to retrieve relevant news coverage. No personal information is sent.
- Stripe (Payment Processing) — United States: If you make a donation, you are redirected to Stripe's secure checkout page. Stripe collects and processes your payment information (credit card, billing address) directly. Sayso never receives or stores your payment card details. Stripe's handling of your data is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Some of these services are located in the United States. By using our platform, you acknowledge that certain data may be processed outside of Canada and may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.
6. Protection of Political Opinions
Your stance on parliamentary bills (support or oppose) is classified as sensitive personal information under Canadian privacy law. We take this classification seriously and apply enhanced protections:
- Your political opinions are stored using industry-standard cryptographic techniques that separate your identity from your stances at the database level. Even in the unlikely event of a data breach, your political opinions cannot be linked back to your account.
- Community sentiment is displayed only in aggregate form (e.g., "47 people support this bill"). Individual stances are never publicly attributed to specific users.
- Your stance data is never sold, shared with third parties, or used for any purpose other than showing you your own history and contributing to anonymous community totals.
7. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from your profile page, or request deletion by contacting us.
- Bill stances and reading history: Retained for as long as your account is active. Deleted when your account is deleted.
- Donation records: Stripe retains payment records in accordance with its own privacy policy and applicable financial regulations. Sayso does not store payment card details.
- Cached bill analysis and audio: Retained indefinitely. This content is generated from public government documents and contains no personal information.
- Application logs: Retained for up to 7 days for operational purposes, then automatically deleted.
8. Your Rights
Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation, you have the right to:
- Access your data: Download a copy of all personal information we hold about you directly from your profile page using the "Download My Data" button. You may also request a copy by contacting us.

10. Cookies, Sessions, and Local Storage
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. This cookie is strictly necessary for the platform to function and does not track your browsing activity.
We also store a randomly generated session token in your browser's local storage to measure how many visitors are currently using the site. This token contains no personal information and cannot be used to identify you. If you are signed in, we associate this token with your account solely to show administrators which registered users are currently active. This data is automatically deleted after a short period of inactivity.
We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party tracking technologies.
11. AI-Generated Content
Bill summaries, perspectives, and audio discussions on this platform are generated by artificial intelligence. This is clearly disclosed in the user interface. AI is used solely to make public government documents more accessible — it is never used to make decisions about you or to profile you in any way.
12. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will:
- Notify you as soon as feasible with details of what occurred
- Report the breach to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
- Take immediate steps to contain the breach and prevent further unauthorized access
We maintain records of all security incidents as required by PIPEDA.
